Our jewellery boxes are designed to protect and organise your pieces beautifully, but they cannot completely prevent tarnishing.

Tarnish is a natural chemical reaction that occurs when certain metals — particularly sterling silver and plated jewellery — are exposed to air, humidity, skin oils, perfumes, and environmental changes. Even when stored on a dresser away from windows, jewellery can still react to moisture and airborne compounds in the room.

How can I reduce tarnishing?

To help minimise tarnish, we recommend:

• Ensuring jewellery is completely clean and dry before storing
• Allowing pieces to air after wearing before placing them back in the box
• Storing items individually where possible
• Keeping jewellery away from bathrooms or high-humidity areas
• Using anti-tarnish protection inside your box

Do silica packets prevent tarnish?

Silica packets help absorb moisture, but they do not neutralise the airborne compounds that cause tarnish. For more effective protection, we recommend using dedicated anti-tarnish strips.

Why does tarnish sometimes happen quickly?

The speed of tarnishing can depend on the metal composition and plating thickness of the jewellery itself, as well as environmental factors such as humidity levels.
